The Grant Imahara Coding Challenge uses miniature R2-D2 domes to teach electronics and coding skills.

The Grant Imahara Coding Challenge is an innovative STEM activity supported by the Ohio Coders project and developed by Dr. Joshua Montgomery, computer science professor at Southern State Community College.

The program is administered across six school districts.

Students learn to code remote controls for 3D printed R2-D2 domes. These controls enable movement, sounds, and lighting. Students are encouraged to create custom inputs and outputs to create a dome that is uniquely theirs.

The Grant Imahara STEAM Foundation provides support to ensure that all students have access no matter their socioeconomic status. The Foundation’s funding allows students to build their own mini-domes.
