Star Wars Celebration STEAM Academy
In April, the Grant Imahara STEAM Foundation produced the Droidbuilders STEAM Academy at Star Wars Celebration Europe. Over fifty volunteers, professional educators, and Star Wars crew members delivered an unforgettable STEAM experience to a packed house of thousands of delighted kids.
In the STEAM Classroom, members of the world renowned Pinewood Studios creature effects shop offered a stunning behind the scenes peek at how Star Wars movie magic is made. Matt Denton, Thea Keenan, Paul Szebesta, and Henrik Svensson gave kids an extraordinary introduction to animatronics, art, and model-making careers. In a preview of what’s to come from the foundation’s STEAM Star initiative, these superstars of industry showcased how science, technology, engineering, art, and math are used in unexpected ways in the world’s coolest jobs.
In the STEAM Activity Room, students learned STEAM skills by participating in innovative Star Wars themed projects, games, and activities such as droid racing, mini light saber building, Sabacc, and animatronics coding.
The Droidbuilders STEAM Academy fostered a love for lifelong learning in young Star Wars Celebration attendees, proving that education is a force that will be with you… always.
