STEAM Foundation at Star Wars Celebration London
The Grant Imahara STEAM Foundation is sponsoring the Droidbuilders Galactic STEAM Academy at the Star Wars Celebration from April 7-10, 2023 at the Excel Center in London.
The Droidbuilders Galactic STEAM Academy will give students aged 5-18 the opportunity to explore hands-on learning activities in Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math in the context of the STAR WARS universe.
Children and families attending Star Wars Celebration 2023 will have free access to the program. Interactive activities and engaging workshops will teach students to think critically, creatively, and collaboratively. The program will show young students that STEAM subjects can be fun and accessible, regardless of background or skill level.
"This is a wonderful introduction to a grand audience for our Foundation,” said Carolyn Imahara, Grant Imahara’s mother and Foundation co-founder. “And of course, it makes me think of Grant and his friends and all that he loved to do!"
A leadership team of educator Nancy Schunke, designer Michael Baddeley, entrepreneur Michael Perl, and Foundation president Don Bies developed the program with the help of local educators. Supplies were provided courtesy of Lucasfilm Limited, ReedPop, and Ricoh Europe PIC.
The DroidBuilders Galactic STEAM Academy is a collaboration between the Foundation and the droid building community. "The Droidbuilders are so excited to partner with the Grant Imahara STEAM Foundation to bring innovative and educational outreach programming to Star Wars Celebration Europe," said program director Nancy Schunke. "We are looking forward to inspiring the next generation of innovators and problem solvers."
With the support of the Droidbuilders, the Foundation aims to inspire youth around the world by bringing this pilot program to future conventions and to events in underserved communities.
